What are the commonly used materials for junction boxes?

ABS is synthesised from three chemical monomers: acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. Acrylonitrile provides high strength, thermal and chemical stability, butadiene provides toughness and impact resistance, while styrene is easy to process and provides high smoothness and strength. Morphologically, ABS is an amorphous material. Polymerisation of the three monomers results in a terpolymer with two phases.

1. Styrene
The continuous phase of acrylonitrile, the other is the dispersed phase of polybutadiene rubber. The performance of ABS mainly depends on the ratio of the three monomers and the molecular structure of the two phases. This has great spirituality in product design, and hundreds of high-quality ABS materials have been produced on the market. These different quality materials have properties such as medium to high impact resistance, low to high finish and high temperature deformation properties. ABS material is very easy to process, has good appearance properties, low creep, good dimensional stability and high impact strength.
2. Polycarbonate (PC)
PC is an amorphous engineering material with excellent impact strength, thermal stability, gloss, antibacterial properties, flame retardancy and non-polluting properties. The notched Izod of PC has high impact strength and low shrinkage rate, generally 0.1%~0.2%.
PC has good mechanical properties but poor flow, which makes the injection molding process of this material more difficult. When choosing the quality of your PC material, you should base your final expectations on the product on this basis. If the plastic part needs higher impact resistance, the low-flow PC material can be used, and conversely, the high-flow PC material can be used to optimize the injection molding process.
3. Coexistence or mixing of polycarbonate and ABS (PC+ABS)
PC+ABS has the comprehensive characteristics of PC and ABS. For example, ABS has the characteristics of easy processing, and PC has excellent mechanical properties and thermal stability. The ratio of the two affects the thermal stability of the PC/ABS material. PC/ABS blends also show excellent flow properties.
